Biography

Lara R. Sandberg has over ten years of experience working on complex settlements and commercial litigation, helping businesses and individuals receive the compensation they deserve. Since joining Eckland & Blando in 2015, Lara has devoted her practice to litigating and negotiating settlement recoveries for property owners damaged by the actions of the United States Government. She has helped secure over $400 million in damages for those owners under the Tucker Act and Section 515 of the Housing Act of 1949 based on demonstrations that the Government repudiated each owner’s contract and thereby removed valuable property rights.

Lara also works closely with local and national companies to provide transactional assistance, including drafting, revising, and negotiating marine service contracts, purchase agreements, charter agreements, TOWCONs, and other contracts. Lara also handles charter parties, maritime financing, and documentation and registration matters for both commercial vessels and private yachts.

At her last firm, Lara spent several years managing hundreds of thousands of liens asserted in the Deepwater Horizon Economic and Property Damages Settlement, NFL Concussion Settlement, and U.S. ASR Hip Settlement. She confirmed settlement agreement compliance, developed settlement policies, and drafted public communications, thereby enabling the claims administrator to quantify, prioritize, and verify the authenticity of asserted liens. Lara also managed a team of attorneys to process and pay liens and worked with a local judge to develop a consensual dispute resolution process.

Lara graduated from the University of Virginia in 2007 after competing as a Division I varsity softball player. She then received her J.D. from Boston College Law School.

Lara is admitted to practice law in Minnesota and Virginia, in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and in the Eastern District of Virginia.
